With her snowboard strapped to her back, Gare trekked for five hours up Villarrica, one of Chile’s most active volcanoes. Against a background of smoke, coming from the volcano’s lava lake, descending on her board took less than an hour.
Gare also surfs, snorkels and wakeboards and she has travelled throughout the Americas and Europe, drawn to immense, remote places, removed from culture and communities, away from the speed and intensity of London-living.
Gare slows down and relaxes when creating her pen and pastel works. Looking at her illustrations, which reflect the isolation, tranquillity and immenseness of nature, they allow the observer to pause and take a breath too.
