'She’ll Wait for You in the Shadows of Summer' is a stunning, fantastical image created by British fine art photographer Kirsty Mitchell. Formerly a fashion designer, Mitchell creates sumptuous tableaus of intense colour, appropriating boats, books, flowers and butterflies into her dreamlike imagery.
The work is part of a larger project – Wonderland - a book Mitchell produced out of love and loss for her mother, who died in 2008. Mitchell initially submerged her grief into creating elaborate costumes for a photography project that, over the next five years, grew into a storybook, one without words, which echoes the fragments of the fairy tales Mitchell’s mother read to her as a child. Mitchell launched her own Kickstarter campaign to publish the book; with more than 300,000 people following Wonderland on social media, in ten hours her target of £70k had been reached and within a month the campaign closed, an astounding five times her target.
