Growing up in Hollywood (great uncle William was a silent film star), stoked Gregory Johnston’s car fanaticism: “In California, your car is much more than a means of transportation: it’s really an extension of your persona; it’s a statement; your car is everything.” Johnston owns, restores and creates art inspired by classic cars.
Painted in non-metallic vintage Ferrari blues, the striking geometric sculpture weighs over 45kg and is both fragile and front heavy. Johnston hand-sanded, waxed and polished every front, back and side of each radiating tier to achieve a completely pristine, mirror-like finish.
He explains that its title, which translates as 'I Just Can’t Take It Anymore', stems from “the literal madness that went into building, fabricating and perfecting that piece”.
